Earlier this month, when we first wrote about the USDA’s revamped food pyramid, we poked fun at recommended glass of milk towering over the rest of the MyPlate model. Though aimed at curbing obesity and fostering a balanced diet throughout the country, the plate falls short in helping some to make healthier eating decisions.
As MyPlate continues to spread throughout the U.S., lots of people, from health experts to average citizens, are sounding off on what the new chart will mean. Many writers and experts have taken the time to critique MyPlate’s missteps and teach people the important details that Americans should know. Kristin Wartman, one nutrition expert has used the infographic method to craft her critique, which she calls “A Real Food MyPlate”. The Real Food model highlights the lack of water in MyPlate, as well as the importance of eating fresh non-processed fruits and vegetables.
